Screen resolution has gone wild

Windows XP SP1.

Last night I installed some updates on my home pc and it seems the screen
resolution has now changed. I've attepted to change the resolution, but it
still seems dodgy.

It is still set at 1024*768 but my desktop icons are larger and spaced
differently. Additionally, when I open programs such as Outlook or Win
Exployer, they too are larger and less sharp. When I try to increase the
resolution, everything on the pc get larger yet, so much so, I have to
scroll within my desktop. When I go the other way, items get MUCH larger
but with less resolution. My DPI is still set at 96.

Any thoughts????

Maybe it would help if you told us what upgrade you did???
What video cad and monitor??

Thanks Peter. I was hoping no-one would ask that.

I will bounce back when I can sort out the various changes I made. The
updates where only released yesterday. My monitor is a 15 inch Laptop
screen.
