LCD Screen resolution question

I have just upgraded my monitor to a 19" flat screen which is set at the
resolution of 1280X1024 because that is it's native resolution, I used to
have a regular 15in CRT so this is a big change in size

I find the text and icons a bit small at this resolution. I have changed
the font size in IE which has helped on some web sites, but not all, and I
have changed to larger fonts on OE which has helped on the message text but
has not changed the message listings. I also changed the text to larger in
Prop.-Display-appearance. How do I get the menu bars, icons and text in all
programmes slightly larger
without lowering the resolution? I have cleartype on, and larger icons on
also. But my desktop everything is still real small. I also changed DPI to
larger, but that looks a little weird, does anyone else have their's changed
to 120?

and also like when you open IE, or any program for that matter, are you not
supposed to maximise anything anymore, because it seems like most thingsdont'
need maximized if you use 1280x1024. This is all new to me, this LCD screen
and it's much bigger at 19in, coming from a 15in CRT, I know I asked a lot of
questions but any help to any of my questions would be greatly appreciated,
by not just me, but my eyes also :)

Everything is way toooo big if I do that, and looks very blurry on a 19in, I
would really like to use the native resolution of 1280x1024, I was hoping
someone here could suggest something

I dunno...I have a 17" LCD monitor running at 800 x 600 but do
not use 'clear type'. Apparently it sometimes makes things worse
on some monitors.

Mine is not blurry but had to turn the brightness down as it was
way too bright. Personally, I prefer the old CRT display for
truer colo(u)rs when editing photos and/or graphics.

Are you using the software that came with the montor or using
the default native plug & play drivers?

Hope you get some other suggestions...my experience is rather
limited with LCD.

the software that came with it is the same as the plug and play, I agree I
wish I had more experience w/ LCD.

Underdog,

Use the LCD native settings, and Cleartuype
then
Right click vacant space on desktop
Select Properties
Select Appearance tab
Select Effects
Check "Use large icons"
then
Select Settings tab
Select Advanced
Set the "DPI setting" to what you like (I use 120 dpi on a 15" LCD)

under Accessories, use Accessability options to enlarge Menus.
you will have to play with the other enlarged font options along with this one to find what is pleasing to your eyes.

where is the options to enlarge menus? i see the high contrast option under
accessabiltiy, is that what you mean? and I would like to thank everyone for
their suggestions, I'm going to use many of them, and hopefully they will
solve my problem, if anyone else has any other suggestions, please let me
know, I also forgot to ask if your using 1280x1024, do you guys browse using
the maximized browser, or do you keep it smaller window? cause when it's full
window it seems like you only see about 1/3 of most websites since a lot
probably aren't designed for 1280x1024, I think that's why I could be wrong,
you guys probably know :) thanks again.

Set the resolution to 800 x 600. XP likes that.

Doug

However the LCD monitor will not perform at its best when it is set to
that res. LCD monitors perform at their best when set to their native
res. They will work at lower resolutions but will not provide the
most optimum picture or response.
