Screen Freeze

I have an older computer that I upgraded from windows ME to XP. My computer
exceds the requirements but im having problems. After I upgraded I realized
that most programs didnt work so I reformatted into NTFS file system. Now my
computer frequently freezes up, It happens all the time even when im opening
up the start menu. Ive gotten fed up with it. Ive reinstalled XP multiple
times but it doesnt seem to work, so I dont think it is a installation error.
Sometimes it freezes stopping the screen, but the computer continues to work
behind it. Sometimes it flashes a blank black screen and returns with
distorted colors and missing words. I hope it isnt the video card. I also
have a problem on startup it hangs and on the first try it ALWAYS says
"cannot find operating system". But then I restart it and It goes through.
Startup total takes about 4-8mins and im fed up. I want to go back to ME but
im running NTFS. Please anyone who can help me please do so. I need this
computer for recording purposes.

You are in for a lot of hassle whichever way you jump.

If you stick with Windows XP you most likely need to update drivers. This
may be possible if you can provide make and model details for each
problematic system device. It all depends on the age of hardware devices and
a bit of luck. I would have thought it makes sense to try to sort these out.
If the problems cannot be resolved you will then have an option to go back
to Windows ME or do something else.

Based on what you say I suspect you have gone about resolving issues the
wrong way. Reinstalling Windows XP is only helpful if you then tackle tasks
in a certain order. Once XP is installed you must first sort out all driver
issues before adding XP updates and programmes. If you solve some problems
and then reinstall Windows XP you just waste all your earlier efforts to get
the system in good working order.

You mention recording purposes. Please clarify what exactly you mean.

Hope this helps.
