Screen Display Problem

DELL Latitude 100L laptop running Win XP. Has been functioning fine until
screen display became very dark, to the point that it is very hard to read
what is displayed on the screen. Upon restart the DELL screen was
bright/colorful and readable, but then the screen turns black. I can start
the laptop in SafeMode but I'm unsure what to do to correct this problem.
Looked at display settings under control panels and troubleshooting. Help!

Me too with an HP Pavilion laptop. Very dark screen on restarts. I can barely
see the major screen items but it's to dark to see the pointer. I let it
boot, hibernate it, wait 60 seconds and power back up to come out of
hibernate to return the screen to full brightness. It's a PITA,
HHHEEEELLLLPPPPPPP !!!!!!
