Screen Display Problem

For some strange reason, today, I was just using the internet when my screen
just blacked out for one second and then when it came back, the icons and
everything I opened was "weird". Weird as in when you open up a small window,
it seems as if the words are stretched out the entire screen and the icons
are unbelievably brighter. For instance, when you open up internet explorer
the back button is green, but this time its BRIGHT BRIGHT lime green. And
the text is much darker because it looks like its being stretched across the
screen. Like an old television has those bars thats dark, then light, thats
what my computer looks like. I have no clue what's happening. Any ideas on
what is happening and how I can fix this problem?

There here ! - sounds like poltergeist,
but seriously, if it is a CRT and the screen has gone ultra brilliant it can
be VERY dangerous.

The phosphor is supposed to get bombarded just so hard and no harder. if the
EHT generator goes overvoltage the tube can start emitting X-Rays as well as
visible light.

If your cable is OK, you can try it with the cable unplugged, it should shut
down or show a 'no-signal' display.
If the bright green continues you have a hardware fault in the monitor.

If the screen looks ok without a signal try resetting the video mode to say
640 x 480 16 colours ( Safe mode / VGA)
and then back again.

THanks for the suggestion, and i checked if it was plugged in firmly, and the
problem still continues.

I also have another description of the problem: When you see text, its as if
the gray bar is highlighting the text the whole way across the screen.

Hmmm, sounds like it "may" be time for a trip to the shop with your wallet.
Just to make sure, try to borrow another monitor and see if its the same
with that.
