Screen capture question

I have an old DOS-based graphing program working
nicely under XP. Problem is, I can't make screen
shots of it so that I can save and file the pictures.
Alt-Enter and Alt-Prt don't save so that Editpad
can have the 'Paste' ungrayed out.

Anybody got a good work-around for this? Or a Windows-
based program for plotting curves from tables of X-Y
coordinates?

Stop taking pictures of the window, you can't paste pictures in a text editor. Use conventional Copy and Paste.

David, of course I'm aware of that. But I've done conventional Copy and
Paste into programs like IrfanView.... screen shots.....like I'm
trying to do here. Not into Notepad or Editpad.

Sorry David, I see I mistakenly referred to Editpad in original
post. Anybody trying to help, please substitute Irfanview....

Try just a straight PrtScrn and Paste into IrFanview. Works for me on a
really really old dos flatfile db I still use.

Have you tried charting in Excel?

PrtScrn>Paste into IrfanView doesn't ungray-out the
Paste option for me. I don't even have a good way to
get from my graph screen out to Desktop, which
might be the basic problem.

As for Excel, I do not use any of the expensive
business-oriented (i.e. non-scientific intended)
software packages.

I think I made the same assumption that others have made; you can run
your DOS ap in a window. If you have to run it full screen, I
understand the difficulty.

I use a program MWSnap, a freeware competitor to SnagIt. It allows me
to take any portion of my screen and save it as various types of
graphic files. It DOES work with a cmd prompt window. It does not
work with a full-screen (Alt-enter cycles between them).

MWSnap? Thank for the lead, I'll try to find it.

Hi Bill. I posted a question about the same issue I'm having with DOS
based APL. So far a couple people claim they can get alt-enter to
properly "window" a DOS graphics plot, but no one has come back with any
info on their setup. Lots of people have made suggestions, but nothing
I've tried so far seems to work.

Next on my list is to try DOSBox. This is a DOS emualtor that runs in a
number of environments. It's free, but I'm not sure how buggy it is.

Bill, you might take a look at CurveExpert. I find that it is very
useful. http://www.ebicom.net/~dhyams/cmain.htm

Thank you, Daven. I've downloaded it and will
give it a try. If it only were in APL, right?

Ya-
Well, you can't expect too much :)
I find that the CurveExpert automatic curve selection works remarkably
well. BTW, I have taken the coefficients from CurveExpert and used
them in Mathcad so that the fitted curve can be p/o an interactive
process. Good Luck !
