Scratched Install CD -- HELP!!

G

Gabe

I have a seriously scratched install CD. I Purchased XP Pro
a few weeks ago. I think the CD was scratched by a faulty
laptop CD-ROM, although I have not tested the theory. I
have procured an alternative CD-ROM to use for the laptop
installation. The CD, however, is now completely useless. I
need a replacement ASAP. The MS online help requires a
product ID for support. I don't have it, since I don't have
WinXP installed. The instructions on how to get the product
ID provided require a running version of XP. How do I get a
replacement? Is there an 800 number I can call -- I can't
find one in all the glossies that came with the install CD
-- or do I need to call their 425 635-7222 long-distance
charges apply number?? HELP!!! This is now an emergency,
and I cannot afford to buy another WinPX!

Check the drive for any obvious contamination.
Try a free type CD (AOL would work) to see if the drive causes the
problem.
You may need to replace the drive.

Assuming Windows XP is retail.
If yours is Pro upgrade, any Retail Pro upgrade will work.
Same applies to the full version.
So it is OK to borrow your friends CD as long as you use your Product
Key.
