Scratched CD...Need replacement

I had my machine upgraded soon after XP came out. The vendor in which did
this work is saying that they cant help me because its more than 30 days old.
And when I enter the product number into Microsoft's support field, it says
contact the vendor. My computer is acting up and I want to start from scratch
and completly erase everything. During a move the OS software was scratched,
and all I want to do is replace the scratched CD. But I am afraid that if I
pay the $35 dollars that they will just tell me that they cant help and to
talk to the vendor.
Anbody have any suggestions or advice?

It sounds like you have an OEM version of XP. This is a version that is sold to vendors, at a substantial discount, usually for installation into a new PC. One of the requirements for distributing OEM versions is that the vendor becomes responsible for any support issues that may be required. You will need to deal with the vendor where you purchased the disk.

If you have an OEM copy of XP, see Ronnie's reply.

If you have a retail copy of XP, the following article:
