I just purchased a new PC and was trying to install the
Teacher-student XP
edition and I recieved an error message stating that the CD-rom may
be
damaged. I checked it out, and it does have a scratch on it. Where
can I
obtain another CDrom, as I still have the product Key and want to it
use it.
Will Microsoft send me a replacement disk?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You can use the Contact Us link on Microsoft's home page to navigate
to a page for support where you can order a replacement CD but there
will be S&H handling charges. However, if you got an OEM version of
the software, don't bother Microsoft since you need to contact the OEM
for a replacement.
So why not try a CD scratch remover product to see if the disc is then
readable? A scratch is not likely to cause sufficient read errors to
prevent retrieving files from the disc, but gouges will as will cloudy
spots. Try polishing up the CD first.
If the scratch is on the clear side (through which the laser reads)
then it might be repairable. If the scratch is on the label side then
the film in which the pits or bubbles were recorded has been damaged
and cannot be repair and only replaced. The label side is more
critical to damage than the clear side although users often don't
think of this.
