Schedular not working

I downloaded and installed the latest version of Defender 1.1.1593 and
updated it on 12/8 after uninstalling the old version. MY OS is XP Pro. I
have AVG Free antivirus, spybot, Adaware and CWShredder and ZoneAlarm
installed. All previous versions of Defender quick-scanned as scheduled. I
ran a quick scan manually and it worked ok. The scheduler is set to
quick-scan at 4AM but has not operated. The machine in on 24/7. Any
suggestions? Thank you.

On Windows Defender window (home), does it say scan schedule around 4 A.M.
daily? Around 4 A.M. are you logged on to an account and if so does the
account have administrator privilieges? Look at Control Panel->Performance
and Maintenance->Scheduled Tasks. Under the Scheduled Tasks pane, click
Advanced and click View Hidden Tasks. Do you see MP Scheduled Scan At 4:00
AM every day?

Thank you. Yes Defender is scheduled to scan around 4AM. At 4AM the
computer is on. As the administrator I am always logged on. The computer is
likely in hibernation mode at that time, however that never prevented all
other versions to scan as scheduled in the wee hours. In the Windows
Scheduler Hidden Tasks the Defender 4AM every day scan is sheduled.

I'll have to get back to you tomorrow. I need to run some tests in standby
mode and try some other power management options.

As additional info, I checked Control Panel > Power Options > Hibernate in
enabled, however in Power Schemes > System Hibernates is set to "Never".

I am having a similar problem with AVG Free. It is not scanning at the
scheduled 5AM even though it scanned on schedule prior to and after I
installed the newest version on 11/20. It stopped scanning on schedule the
day I upgraded Defender.

I put my computer on standby and just as you observed, the scan was not
scheduled. The next test I set up a new scan time and then under Scheduled
Tasks I right clicked the MP Scheduled Scan and clicked Properties. I
clicked the Settings Tab and then checked the box "Wake the computer to run
this task" and sure enough that did the trick. I'm not ready to say "bug",
but it sure looks like it. I couldn't find anything in the WD Help.

The bottom line revolves around the issue of waking up the app. If the older
versions of WD set schedules that would wake up WD, then the system was
probably up to handle the anti-virus schedule. The production release of WD
may have changed the behavior to not wake up the app. So I don't know if WD
is working as designed or not.

Thank you Mr. Cat. As you suggest, I opened Windows Scheduled Tasks, right
clicked on the WD schedule and opened Properties. I checked the box "Wake
the computer to run this task". Hopefully this does the trick. I have the
same issue with the latest version of AVG Free now but its scheduled scan ran
on schedule for 2 weeks before it failed to run, coincidentally on the day
after I installed the new WD version. That is a bit more strange. Thanks
for your help.

Mr. Cat, your advice worked like a charm. At least I think it did.

On the bottom of the Defender interface under Status, it says Last Scan:
"Today at 4AM (quick scan)". This status report has not changed the past 2
days. I can assume the quick scan performed on schedule.

It would be nice if Status reported the date of the scan, (todays date)
instead of simply "Today". That way the date would change each day, better
indicating the scan actually performed. As on past versions the Status
report simply repeating the word "Today" always seemed a bit disconcerting to
me. Could be the Status report is simply stuck on the word "Today", and the
program is not actually performing on schedule. Is there any way to confirm
the scan actually occured?

Good. Someone had complained in the past about the Today issue, but from the
response I suspect it will stay the way it is. You could under Scheduled
Tasks Advanced option click notify me of missing tasks. Other than that, you
could go back and look at the WD logs or the System Events.

Mr Cat, you are a huge help. How do I check WD logs? If I know how to check
it I can do so periodically to satisfy myself that WD is indeed scanning on
schedule. Thanks again.

Mr. Cat,

You have been very helpful to suggest I schedule the Defender scan in
Windows Scheduler and checking the box "Wake the computer to run this task"
so that the computer would wake from Standby. Defender has been running as
scheduled. I have questions ragarding the scheduled Defender scan in the
Windows Scheduler.

Run: "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" Scan
-RestrictPrivileges

What does the "-RestrictPrivileges" mean?

Also, Run as: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

What is this? It is not my Administer name and I don't know where it came
from.

Also, I have attempted to schedule an AVG scan in Windows Scheduler to no
avail. AVG Free 7.5 will not wake the computer to run. I want to use the
Windows Scheduler so I can use the "Wake computer" feature. This is a
Scheduler question and I have searched for answers and I am informed that The
scheduler will not perform without a password for the Administrator. I am
the only one on this computer. I do not have a password so that I don't need
to waste the time of signing in every time I fire it up. The Defender scan
is working without a password. I even attempted to use "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM"
to perform the AVG scan to no avail. I'm a little bit lost here and would
appreciate your help with the above Defender scheduling questions and also
these general scheduling questions. Or where to turn to for the answers.

Thanks.
