Scattering Icons

WinXP PRO
I deleted some icons from the desktop and then re-arranged the ones
that were left. Now when I re-start there are spaces where the deleted
icons were. Can I fix this?

desktop > right click mouse > Arrange Icons by >

Then you have all the options one could want.
