Scanning multiple pages

I would like to know of anyone can tell me of a hack so that I can
scan multiple pages of one document into one file.

I am using an HP OfficeJet G85 with ADF and HP Director scan/fax/copy
software. The ADF allows unattended scanning of multiple pages, but
stores these separate pages into separate files. Since these pages are
all part of one document, I would like them to be saved into one file.

Does anyone know of a hack to the HP software, or other software that
will do this? I am scanning forms that have been filled out by hand,
and will save the scans for archive purposes only -- I will never edit
the scanned image, so OCR is not wanted.

I have tried PaperPort Deluxe 7 that came with my Visioneer Flat
Scanner, but this software is unable to recognize the HP reliably. I
suppose the software has been tweaked to work only with the Visioneer.

Thanks

Irfanview can make multi-page TIFF images, but it is 100% manual. Meaning
that someone has to add the individual images to the main TIFF.

You may not want to OCR the pages, but OmniPage 14 can make a multi-page
TIFF image.

Now, I don't have OmniPage 14, so I do not know how automated it is.

As long as you have PaperPort, why don't you just import the scanned files
into paperport and group there? If your scanning software has a scan to
print function you might also be able to specify the PaperPort printer and
work around it this way. I was going to recommend PaperPort to you anyway
before I got to this part of your post. PaperPort should actually work with
any twain device. Acrobat would of course be the most universal efficient
way to do this, but quite expensive. If your purpose is just for archieval
and ease of viewing is not particularly important you could simply zip the
files up with winzip or winrar. I'm sure there are several software
programs that will do this. Your existing paperport program's problem could
be the operating system your using as well rather then the HP scanner,
although I'll admit I'm not impressed with HP scanning software. I tried
one a while back and wound up taking it back to Staples and getting an Epson
instead. Printers are great, but they missed the boat with scanners IMHO.
There is an update for Paperport 7, but if your using XP I think it still
isn't fully compatible. I had a problem with Paperport 7 one time in win
2000 I couldn't resolve and wound up updating to PP8. So far PP8 works
great in win 2000 and XP.

I've used PaperPort with an HP scanner and now with a Microtek and it works
fine.

What happens with your PP? Do you get errors?

Paul,
Thanks for the suggestion of Scan2PDF. I have tried the evaluation
version and it seems to work very easily and intuitively. And the
price of the full version seems reasonable as well!
