I have a problem with setting the paper size with WIA ADF driver for
windows XP with Hewlett Packard 6300C scanner with ADF - the sizes
listed in drop down list when choose ADF as source do not include A4 -
stops at US letter size with dozens of smaller sizes below that and
does not list any bigger sizes so when scanning multiple A4 pages into
Paperport with Automatic Document Feeder I get bottom of page chopped
off - The Precision Scan Pro software hangs when try to use with
Paperport or Microsoft Office Scan utility so really would like to sort
out this problem with the WIA driver - (my global setting are set to UK
and I cannot find a separate downloadable WIA driver update or say UK
version for A4

The size that is scanned is controlled by the software. From what I read
there is more that one place to set the scanning size in the HP Precision
Scan Pro software.

Manuals for HP 6300C. Download all three.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&product=60104&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

The ADF manual says that it will handle paper up to 8.5" X 14". So it should
handle A4 paper.
Check the bps0583.pdf (User Guide) file on page 101. It is titled Scan A
whole page. It is talking about TEXT.

See page 61 and 62 in bps05483.pdf (User Guide). Selecting the entire
preview area.

in addition to Carl's post, the WIA twain driver is not necessarily the
same driver as HP's twain driver. I can't speak for HP's twain driver,
but our line of scanners would often have the WIA twain driver as well
as the Manufacturer included twain driver when specifying the twain
source in an application.

WIA twain will often be functional, but not take advantage of all
hardware features...

out of curiosity, how much of the bottom is getting cropped off? are
you certain it's not an offset problem? (to find out, use a pen to draw
large arrow tips on both the leading edge as well as the trailing edge
making sure that the tips of the arrows come to a point at the edge of
the document. Then scan in the image. If the image shows the tips of
the top as well as some additional whitespace, and the bottom arrow is
cropped about the same amount, then that's an offset.)

what happens if you scan the A4 document with twain set to legal or
another oversized setting?

hope it helps,

Danny
