Scanners & Cameras ...Again!

I'm aware of the Real Player issue as I have deleted it from my computer to
find the above working fine.

NOW, I've just upgraded to Norton AntiVirus 2005 and noticed the problem has
returned. It would seem the puter does not recognize the camera.

Under My Computer
Devices with removable Storage
I've right clicked on the F: Olympus.....>Properties and get the impression
the puter thinks it's a music file 'container'
I have selected AutoPlay>Pictures>Scanners...
Clicked OK and nothing.

Under Scanners and Cameras
I right click on Olympus D-.......>Properties and I get an error message
that - The properties for the device are not available.

Any thoughts?

That's a big word I'm not familiar with but I can tell you NO

I've noticed my camera lights flashing during the download (sometimes around
10-30 seconds) but this time the camera lights flash a few times and nothing
happens - the scanner wizard does not appear.
I would think that's what you mean.
There is communication between the camera and the puter but only for a brief
time.
I suspect this communication only identifies the 'drive, if you will' but
fails to identify it as a camera and associate it with the scanner wizard.

I had a similar experience because WIA service was not starting. Do you know
how to check to see if a service is running? Are you running XP Home or Pro?

Click on ...Start...Run. In the Open dialogue Box type: services.msc
This will bring up a window listing Local Services.
Scroll down to "Windows Imaging Acquisition (WIA)" service. Make sure
status is "started".

OK, Found it,

Camera not plugged in -
Status - Blank
Startup Type - Manual
Log On As - Local System

Camera plugged in -

Same as above

I'll play with the settings to see if that make a difference
OR
Do I have to reboot each time I change settings?

Since the "status" is blank, the WIA service has not started. What I would
suggest is to set "Startup Type" to Automatic and reboot the system to see if
the service starts. If the service starts Automatically on reboot, I would
connect the camera to see if it Plug&Plays. If the service does not start
you probably have a conflict. Let me know what happens.

After restart
Status > Started
Startup Type > Automatic

Plugged in the Olympus Stylus300
I blinked maybe 5 times and nothing

I suspect this is bigger and out knowledge base as I am finding others with
the same problem.

Thank you for your help
I'll install Camedia Master and use that until a fix is found.

Thanks again,
