Hi,
I'm trying to install a digital camera on my notebook with windows XP
Pro using the "scanners and camera" wizard (from control panel), but
it doesn't do anything. I hear a brief sound when I attach it on the
usb port, but that's all. There's no answer after making a click on
that wizard.
¿Any clue?

thanks

Not necessary at all. When I got my digital camera, the software that came
with it to use in order to download pix from it actually didn't support it.
I rang the camera manufacturer and asked them how I am supposed to get pix
from it and they said to use the software supplied so I told them the
software doesn't support that camera. They said "That's right" so I asked
them, again, how I am supposed to get the pix from the camera. They replied
to use the software that came with the camera. In short, they didn't give a
shit now I had spent my money. As luck would have it, the XP camera and
scanner wizard worked perfectly with it and remains the one I choose to use
with it to this day. No software for the camera installed at all. After all,
they are only USB devices to the computer.

You should be using the installation cd that came with your camera.
Is it on a USB port? My Cannon said not to install a driver, xp
already had one. I simply connected it and it came up with stuff to
bring in pix.Since then I have been using the Dell image expert
file/aquire bot my Cannon and my older scanner. I also have an older
Casio camera and had to install its software to get its pix on another
USB port. Using a Dell 4600 computer.

thanks for your replies.
my camera (canon ixus400) works well on a standard pc with windows
2000 pro, but not in the notebook with xp pro. May be there's
something wrong in the notebook because I can't start the scanners and
camera wizard and also installing from the original CD doesn't change
anything (it does not appear as a new device).
help!

Look in Control Panel - Admin tools - Services, for 'Windows Image
Acquisition' and make sure it is 'Started'. If it is not, double click
it, set the 'Startup type' to Automatic, and Apply, then click the
Start button to get it running immediately. Then try plugging in your
camera (with the system running when you do so)
