I am running XP Home and can't get my Visioneer 8100 scanner to work. It
keeps telling me to use a USB cable when I KNOW I've had it hooked up with a
parallel (through a printer) I've tried looking in Add Hardware and
re-loading the software but nothing seems to help. I don't know why, but the
icon in the lower right hand corner has changed, too.

XP is no fan of parallel scanners and will flatly refuse to cooperate in the
even that a printer is piggy-backed on a scanner.. new USB scanners are
cheap enough..
