scanner will not work

I'm trying to install a Microtek snanmaker s400 scanner to my wifes new
computer and it does not work. Device manager shows it workng properly but
in the task bar it shows the scanner icon as not being ready. If you click
on the program to scan I get a message saying unable to find scanner!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have already updated drivers and such and it works fine on old windows 98
SE computer.
