parallel port, 2k/xp driver installed. At first it worked when it wanted to,
today I can't get it to work at all. Applications spit back "Cannot find
the scanner". I reinstalled the drivers, cleard the entries in the twain32
driectory, reinstalled again, port is in proper mode....... to no avail...
it is dead. I notice quite a few people have this problem in XP, but no
solution.

I got it.... There was SCANDEV driver that got out of whack. I got it to
reinstall, now all is well. But- does anyone know why the scanner has to be
ON before booting up for it to work at all? This was not the case in Win98.

Win2K enumerates hardware each time it boots. If it
doesn't find a given piece of hardware, it won't install a
driver for it. There are some exceptions, such as
parallel printers..

Instead of rebooting when you want to use your scanner,
just turn it on and let it initialize, then go into Device
Manager, right-click and "scan for hardware changes".
