USB scanner trouble

My Acer aka BenQ 3300U scanner won't work under W2K (SP4 + Rollup1). I'm
using the latest software from the manufacturer which works fine under
W98 and XP. I've emailed the manufacturer's support, but no helpful
clues in their response. They suggest that there may be something wrong
with my USB drivers in W2K, that strikes me as unlikely seeing that my
other USB devices (mouse and CD writer) are working ok. My chipset is
natively supported by W2K & XP so I'm using the OS drivers under both
OSs.

When starting the Mirascan software or using the "Aquire image" function
from my graphics editor the orange BenQ splash screen appears for a few
seconds and then it disappears, nothing more happens. Under XP the
scanner interface application appears after the orange splash screen.

The scanner passes the rudimentary W2K diagnostic test (Control Panel >
Scanners & Cameras > Properties > Test Camera or Scanner).

Anything I can do to get it to work under W2K?

When you state 'chipset is natively supported' if by that you mean you used
win default drivers, then try the hw specific drivers from your mobo site or
OEM site
