Scanner No Scanner

Hi Gang:

At first you may think this post belongs elsewhere but
please read on.

Did the proper non connected until requested install of a
HP 3300c scanner.

System finds it when rebooted instructed to connect but
then gives message "inf file not found" - it does not
show up in Control Panel Scanners area.

Disconnected scanner, uninstalled and edited Registry to
remove any references etc.

Rebooted and tried all over again same situation. Again
uninstalled scanner etc.

Thought I would try a different scanner, same results.

Do you think a Repair install of XP Professional will
cure the problem?

No Restore is available since an earlier trojan required
Restore being turned off to remove.

Any other ideas welcomed.

Been there done that...

Have been to every conceivable scanner assist site known
to Google, Copernic Pro etc..

That's why I even tried installing a second scanner from
a different manufacturer but to no avail.
