Scanner and Camera Wizard

How can I reset Camera Wizard as my start option when my D-camera connects?
I prefer to use the Scanner and Camera Wizard with my digital cameras. I
connected my camera and was addressed with "What do you want windows to do?"
I checked the box electing to do the same thing each time then chose the
Camera Wizard option. The Wizard opened. Everytime since it has started as
Windows Removable Disk E with a file and folder format. My guess is that
the option to open as a file folder was highlighted when I made the check.
Afterwards I clicked on the Camera Wizard. I have not installed any new
hardware since. System restore did not correct the problem. Realplayer is
not yet installed.

My cameras are Olympus and came with Camedia software for my use, but there
is no specific driver. In attempt to resolve the issue I installed the
camera as a hardware device . While the device was listed, there was no
access to the properties. I attempted to install the mfg. driver, but found
there was none on the program disc. I then removed the device. At each step
the same results were obtained.

So what you want is to change (or have the option) of what program opens it.
Some files you can right click on and go to properties and there is a button
you can push to change what program opens that particular file.
I don't know where you would find this option for what you want to do.

When you get it figured out post your solution.
Thanks.

Still not resolved. I cannot install the camera as a camera because the
system sees it as a mass storage device. Still looking for help.

Workaround: If the camera is listed in Explorer as a drive when connected,
right click on its icon. Select Properties. On the Autoplay tab, select the
use of Picture and Fax Viewer as the desired action for image file types.

Aside: I have an Olympus camera but use a card reader to manage images.
Reason: Not happy with the Camedia software as I found it's performance was
not consistent. YMMV

I really thought this would do it, but ..... it did not. I understand now
how to designate which program opens the device. That is very clear. I have
reset those values, rebooted and worked with both a camera and mp3 player.
Unfortunately the PC still sees all of those devices as a mass storage device
and in turn does not open any program. This leaves my MP3 player being
unrecognized by software programs, thus I can not sync my Napster aquired
unit to the device.

The problem at this point does not involve what program starts when I plug
in a device.

I guess the problem has to do with Win XP recognizing various USB plug&play
devices for what they are, instead of treating them all as mass storage
devices (such as a plug in storage card).

Sharon - thanks a lot.

You're welcome but I would feel better if you had this resolved. Both
cameras and mp3 players utilize file storage. I guess that's why XP sees
them as storage devices.

I was over at the Napster site the other day researching their service
(considering it). I found that the mp3 player that I own is not on their
list of compatible players. Compatible players interact with their software
and the "napster-to-go" service. Is your mp3 player on their list?

Incompatible players don't work with napster-to-go and, according to them,
you need a different napster plan to use them. Copying/syncing may be
handled differently under this other plan.

While you might be limited by the compatible device list for napster, your
camera should work with the Camedia software. As long as that software has
been updated to work well with XP (the version I had didn't work well at
all), it should be an option. But if Olympus does not have the
documentation or the tech support to help you get the software/camera combo
talking to each other, you're back to limited choices. Sorry.
