Thanks in advance.

Is there a freeware dos utility that will do a scandisk. I am having
trouble with Microsoft's scandisk.

Again thanks,

Which OS? Have you tried running ScanDisk in 'safe' mode?

The hard drive in question will not boot into safe mode, thus a reinstall.
I can not install without going thru scandisk.

When in DOS, type: scandisk

You don't need any "special" third party programs.

I can not run "scandisk" in dos. It stalls. I am looking for a
replacement.

Thanks anyway,

cd \win98
setup /IS /IQ

will skip the scandisk and go straight to install if any good for you?
