Unable to run disk check with XP. After phase 2 error msg reads 'windows is
unable to complete disk check'. I have all programs off & Norton 2004 pro
anti-virus disabled. Problem started after installing Nortons so
reinstalled it & disk check worked, but after cleaning disk then running
disk check again the error appeared again.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like CHKDSK ran into a unrecoverable error. This is usually
bad due to the fact that this error is usually caused by a hardware issue.
Try doing the following:

1. Go to a command prompt and type in CHKNTFS C: (or the drive letter you
are checking). Does the drive show up as "dirty"? If the drive is dirty,
then you probably have some sort of hardware issue (bad disk, controller
issue, terminiation (if SCSI), etc.). You will want to run the CHKDSK /R
command (which will require a reboot). If the problem still continues, I
would get your hardware checked out.

2. Go into your System Event Log and look for any event ids (9,11,15,51)
related to your disk subsystem. If you are receiving any event ID 9s or 11s
with a source of DISK or your disk controller driver, this would pretty
much mean that you are running into a problem with hardware.
