I have a Windows 2000 professional computer that is stuck in a scandisk
loop. Everytime the computer reboots it runs scandisk. When scandisk is
finished the computer reboots. If scandisk is canceled the computer
reboots. Even when I start the computer in safe mode, scandisk runs. I
started the computer in recovery console mode and renamed chkdsk.exe, but
that didn't work. Any ideas?

What OS did you say you are using?

Sorry Robert,

there is no Scandisk in Win2000. You an run checkdisk from a command prompt. Start > Run >
"type CHKDSK /F/R .
And type "Y" for yes and restart. It will take about 30 minutes.

If you still have a problem afterward, I suggest you do an OS repair with your current ERD.
If you do not have one, you can try it from the Recovery console. If that still doesn't work
you can do a repair install by using your four boot floppies and say you are going to do and
install. after you get past the first "repair" you will finally come to another with the
choice to Install or Repair. Choose Repair. This will replace almost all files pertinent to
having the clean install, except you won't lose your data and settings. You will need your
CD Key Code. When complete, restart and see if that did the trick. If it did not, you, my
friend, need a clean install.
