Scandisk in W2K- kill processes?

M

ms

I searched for scandisk in W2K, should run chkdsk instead.

In W98SE, it was necessary to kill all running programs before running
scandisk.

But my W2K has about 30 running processes, nearly all OS required.

Does chkdsk run Ok without killing those processes?

The W2K data I found makes no mention of this.

Advice?

In other words, I'm then in Safe Mode, where lots of those programs
aren't running anyway?

No, it will finish loading the operating system AFTER chkdsk completes.

If you want to fully check a drive, then do:
CHKDSK x: /X /R
If the drive cannot be dismounted, it will flag it to be checked on the
next reboot.
