Occasionally when I open my mail, a new message will download, and I get the
tone that there is a new message, but there aren no messages in any folders.
Does anyone know where these messages go?

Did you look in the Junk E-mail folder?
I assume you have "Show All Messages" enabled for all folders
(as opposed to "Hide Read Messages"), and "Permanently delete
suspected junk e-mail..." is not enabled. The only other known
cause for odd effects is an overly aggressive antivirus.

i have "show all messages" enable, and "permanently delete junk email" is not
enabled. I dont see any mail deleted by my antivirus, and nothing shows up
in my deleted box. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not fully compatible
with Windows Mail, although it takes a while for symptoms to start
showing up.

i just have this feeling that someone has accessed my computer. I wonder if
that could be

Not likely. Do you have reason to believe that some incoming messages
are actually missing? Perhaps the New Mail notification was a false alarm.
