Saving my .MSWMM project to .wmv on external drive

I am having trouble getting Windows Movie Maker to save my project to my
external hard drive.

Here is what I did:

1. Captured my movie from mini-dv camcorder to external hard drive with
NERO. It became .avi
2. Opened the file with Windows Movie Maker to create project.
3. Creating project was fine.
4. Unable to save as .wmv to my external hard drive. The Windows Movie Maker
will only allow me to save it to my local C drive. Even when I press browse
and select the External hard drive (E drive) it won't recognize it.

Please help.

This may be a good thing. Saving to an external hard drive has a tendency to
cause problems because of the slow USB connection. You are better off saving
to the internal hard drive and then moving it from there to the external if
that's ultimately where you want it to end up.
