Saving Files Remotely

I'm trying to save documents to the server by setting the
default as y:/ which is linked to \\jamiesroom\shared
documents all that works fine but when it comes to saving
a file it comes up access denied, when you right click
the folder; properties (on the server) it is read only
when you unclick it and press OK (or apply) when you get
up properties up again it has changed again. Is there a
way to make not read only
