Saving data from access into excel grayed out. Why?

Although the tutorial indicates that data can be saved to excel from an
access report, the button is grayed out. Why would this be?
 
Which version of Access? If you are using Access 2007 AND if you haven't
installed the updates, export-to-Excel was disabled as part of a court
settlement.

I believe subsequent updates reinstated the capability.
