Linked Excel File won't update

I have an excel file linked to a database. The excel data is updated through microsoft query from time to time. Why, after I update/refresh the spreadsheed and save it, does the Access linked file not update? Do I really have to get out and get back in?

Microsoft lost a lawsuit several years ago, and had to remove the ability to
update linked spreadsheets. STUPID software patents...
