saving collections, possible?

My hardrive is filling up w/ collections. i.e raw footage that I uploaded
from the camera....I bought an exteranl hardrive as to unload them from my
laptop, but it doesn;t appear possible. or is it?

Once the movie is made and saved, I usually just delete the collection. The
end result doesn't require them.

Your collections is simply a place that stores links to the location of the
clips on your harddrive.
You most certainly can move your clips to the external harddrive but not
through Movie Maker. Instead open Windows Explorer and navigate to the
folder that contains your clips (likely a folder in "My Documents" and it is
probably the "My Videos" folder) and simply drag them to the external
harddrive.
