I'm using Windows XP IE 6.0. All of a sudden I can't save favorites or
organize favorites. Any ideas?

Hi Rich :)

First -

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

then try again. If still not joy, then try the following:

Cannot Add Favorites to the Favorites Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q177848

Login as Administrator (for Windows 2000/XP) or equivalent, and type this
command in Start/Run dialog:

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll

also...

Your Favorites folder may be corrupt. Delete the old and create a new one
with the following:

Create a new Favorites folder as per the instructions here
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers3.htm#favorites

Note: Make a backup copy of the current Favorites folder for the User in
question.

Copy and reinstall your IE favorites
http://help.ischool.washington.edu/faqs/idx/8/062/article/

Cannot Open or Add Web Pages to the Favorites Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q218/8/41.asp

Hope this helps :)

Hi Jan
When I run regsvr32/ i shdocvw.dll I get a message which says the File can
not be found. Yet when I search my hard drive it is n D:\Windows\System32
folder. On another note, when I run this command, on occassion I get a
message that windows installer is looking for a 511974xxx file. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Rich :)

Try this and see if it will resolve the problem..

IE Fix
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

If not, you may need to do a repair of the IE:

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378/EN-US/
Be sure to visit Windows Update site and let it scan for all needed updates
and service packs afterward.

Hope this helps :)

Hello Jan Il
I have tried, no success. Keep coming up with a message that windows
installer is looking for a D:\windows\inf\i386 file. Which is not on my
computer. Then a Windows Installer message looking for a file
\\OfficeUpdateCabs\511974\511974MAINSp03.msp (or something like that) IE
works, but won't allow me to save or organize favorites. I don't know what
this 511974 file is
but the message keeps coming up and is certainly NOT one of Microsofts user
friendly features. If they (MS) would provide this fiel, then maybe this
would solve the problem? Don't know, but it is very frustrating.

Not
regsvr32/ i shdocvw.dll
Try
regsvr32 / i shdocvw.dll

Hi Rich :)

If you have indeed tried the steps provided, all including the IE repair,
and the problem persists, then, as PA Bear suggested, the problem may be
caused by some form of scumware on your system. Thus, clean your system as
he suggests and see if that helps. Be sure to run the HiJackThis program
and post your log.
