saving a file as doc not txt

Somehow I must have inadvertently changed a word doc into a txt file, and now
I can't save it as a word doc.
When I go to the file drop down, the "save as" option is not there on the
new document I created. The two save options are 'save as copy' and 'save'.
When I hit save the file shows as a txt file, and the 'save as type' at the
bottom of the window doesn't even list "save as a doc file" when I click on
the arrow to show the various file types. Jeesh I have no idea how to
describe this. Also, all the other word docs in the folder I want to save to
have disappeared in this window. But, I have another word doc minimized and
when I bring it up, the file drop down menu once again has 'save as' as an
option, and through this route, the folder and all my other docs are there.

Hi Sarah,

Sounds to me as if you're opening the .txt file in Notepad, not Word. Try
using Windows Explorer to change the file's extension from'.txt' to '.doc',
then opening the file.

Cheers
