save Word doc w/o extension

Is there a way to save a doc in Word 2000 in .txt format w/o an extension
(i.e., w/o ".txt")?

There is a doc that I have that is created by another application that I
edit in Word with a macro (many search & replaces, including carriage
returns). The doc has no extension and I would like to save it that way,
but Word appends ".txt" to it. So I then have to delete the original and
then edit the name of the doc that Word saved to remove ".txt".

Also, in a search & replace, I often look for "^p" for a paragraph mark,
but when doing a wildcard search the only code I can find is for a manual
line break, "^l", which does not find paragraph marks. Is there a wildcard
equivalent to ^p?

Enclose the filename in quotation marks.

Thanks. I tried that with Word 2000 and it still added .txt at the end,
within the quotes. The chosen format is "text only".
