Save Updates

[Confused]

I have a PC with XP Pro & my wife a laptop Home edition. Since our
connection speed is only 28 kbp I wish to minimize any Windows Update
downloads. Can this be done once & the results then applied to both
machines? If so how.

The Windows Update Catalog does allow you to save to a local folder on your system. It asks you for save location.
On the Windows update site, select the Windows Update Catalog link (on left-hand side of screen). Follow the
"Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems" path.

Select the items you need. Then when you pick the download basket, you'll get a prompt to save to a local HD.
"Type or browse to the download location of your choice" . Press the browse button. Select a drive.

Another MS location is the MS Download Center where you can also search for & find specific fixes or updates.
