Save - Not Responding

Hello,

We have been opening 5mb Word2000 documents from a remote site with a 2mb
link. We can browse and edit the document with no problems and we have
removed the background save options. When we finally select to save it takes
about 30-60sec to save (which is a long time in tech terms) and I have
noticed that in the Task Manager Word is displaying as Not Responding for
some of this time.

Does anybody know how to sort this out?
Thx

Hi =?Utf-8?B?aW5VS2Zyb21VUw==?=,

Copy the document to the local drive. Edit it. Close it, then copy it back to
the remote location.

This is a relatively large document. Word not only has to d/l all that data, but
also maintain "scratch" and "temp" files of the same magnitude the entire time
you're editing. When you save, all the information in those files has to be
co-ordinated; during this time, Word will not respond. Speed is actually the
least of your problems; you'll be lucky if you never
experience a transmission glitch that ends up damaging the file structure.

Thanks but this is not an option due to the nature of our work.
Would Office 2k3 do anything for this issue? I might have to consider
Citrix as a workaround.

Word 2003 does have a built-in option (Tools | Options | Save) to "Make
local copy of files stored on network or removable drives." This will
prevent loss of data at least and should also speed up operations. The
"local copy" is, I believe, automatically deleted when you save and close
the document.
