Why not just create a new pst file, copy all your emails to that, and save
that?

all .pst files must be less than 1gb before
the laptop refresh group will work on my system.

mine are closer to 2 gb.

need another solution.

First of all, in TEN years working as a managemant accountant in some of the
largest companies in the UK I NEVER had a pst file even remotely approaching
that size and I cannot understand how on earth that can happen. Do you NEVER
do any archiving or deleting of unwanted mail? I bet there are THOUSANDS of
messages you don't need.
However, as your file IS that big, you are never going to "convert" it all
to text files in a month of Sundays.
I know, how about splitting it into two or more pst files based on dates?
Now THERE'S a novel thought......

Gordon:

Unfortunately i must keep all customer correspondence for 7 years.
And I have had several thousand customers over that time period.
my email pst's are at a total of 1.8 gb. I have already split out my .pst's
into 5
separate folders. the totals are what my systems folks are looking at .

i usually carry between 1,000 to 1,500 emails just in my in box ...i receive
100+ emails per day ...not spam, not junk...but which must be read and
responded to .

w/o getting into the company...we are the largest telecommunications company
in the world and we have laid off far too many people.

i am working with my desktop central support right now...just re installed
office 2003 and that did not fix the trouble

Gordon:

figured it out

Diane:

I noticed you had a post on microsoft.com reference this issue.
Thought I would forward the fix.

procedure for saving emails to a text file in outlook 2003

click on the folder with the multiple emails you wish to save
click file-select import /export
select export to a file
click next
select tab separated values (windows)
click next
folder with the emails you wish to save should be highlighted
click next
name the file you wish to save
click next
you will receive a confirmation box with the info highlighted
click finish
emails will all appear whether plain text, rich text or html. there will
be some
funny headers which will appear at the top of each text file but really not
a big deal

Not sure who to thank here - Gordon or Diane - but thanks for this fix.
