Who never experienced the disappointing experience to save a document
overwriting the one used as template??
To limit this problem it would be useful to have, in the message window "Do
you want to save the changes to Document?", a fourth button, Save as...,
other than Yes, No and Cancel.
I believe this would remember to the writer that he started by another
document, and then he would choose Save as.

Apologize if I wrote this post in the wrong forum: I searched the
possibility, existing in Office Discussion Groups, to post suggestions to
Microsoft, but I wasn't able to find it for Windows.

this sounds like a very general question, so i think its in the right
place.

i have a very general solution to your situation.....
assuming that you use a particular document as a template
only...meaning you will not want to change it often or ever....you can
simply change its attribute in windows. right-click and choose
properties...tick the "read only" box and apply...the next time you try
to alter that particular document, windows will have a fit and pop up a
"save as" window.
of course you should experiment with a dummy file of your own making to
test this....
it is after all, a very general suggestion...

best of luck

1. The Office group is microsoft.public.office.misc
2. No matter how many roadblocks you put up, someone will run thru them
and want one more installed.

Set your template to READ-ONLY
