When closing Word 2003 I am asked if the document should be saved, even when
no changes have been made. It appears any action to the document will cause
the request to save, such as printing the document. Any suggestions?

Hi! KRC

Yes. You are right. All changes, including printing changes, will cause the
situation.

Printing updates fields. If you click the arrow beside Undo, you will see
Update Fields as the undoable action. Also see "WD2002: You Are Prompted to
Save Changes When You Close a Document Even Though You Have Made No Changes"
