Hi Tech Editor
If I am saving "down" from 2002 to 2000 or 97, should I also "save the
changes to the document template"?
I think that the short answer is no.
The bigger question is to wonder what you're doing that is causing changes
to occur in the template. This would only occur in one of the following
circumstances:
(a) when modifying a style, you ticked the "add to template" box
(b) you used the organizer to copy things to the template, but haven't saved
the template
(c) you created or changed toolbars, autotexts, macros, keyboard shortcuts
in the template while editing the document.
As far as I can see, just saving "down" shouldn't affect the template on
which the document is based.
There's some information at
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/sharing/WillMyFormatChange.html that may
explain what happens when someone else opens your document.
Hope this helps.

template (originally based on Normal.dot) with styles created to meet report
formatting requirements. If all I have done is "saved down," which template
will be affected by "also saving the changes"? Only the template attached
to the "saved down" file? I don't want to change the custom template on the
source PC, but I would change the attached template if it would serve
compatibility when the file is opened by someone else in 2000 or 97.
