'Save as Picture' leaves a black background when saving as jpeg

I have created a small simple diagram (using boxes, text and lines) in
powerpoint 2003 - I have then grouped all the shapes.

The diagram has no background and is on a white page.

When I right-click on the diagram there is an option of 'Save as
picture' and save it as a jpg format - it adds a black background to
the jpg.

I have done a bit of googling and found a few other reports of this
issue but no real solution.

If I save as png format it looks fine but I really need it as jpg.

Any ideas?

You seem to be correct. Saving as a JPG does not seem to preserve the
transparency. Here are a couple of workarounds:

(1) Draw a white box and put it behind the object. Group that with the
object and save as picture. You won't have a transparent background, but
you will have a white background.

(2) Use PowerPoint to save as a PNG and then use some image editing
software to convert it to JPG.

Dear both - thanks for the solutions and explanations.

I hadn't realised that pegs do not support transparency
