save a slide as a picture

In PowerPoint 2007 I have created a logo/signature combination consisting of
a color photo and 3 textboxes.

I tried saving the slide as a picture (JPEG and PNG) to be inserted
individually to an email that requires such a signature. The problem is that,
when inserted, the picture is actually a whole page, with lots of white
space surrounding the actual logo which only occupies a small fraction of a
page, which makes it impractical as a logo. When I simply select the desired
elements and COPY/PASTE to the email, everything becomes black & white.

I am stumped! Any suggestions?

Thanks

Select each element of your logo (click on one and shift-click on the
rest). You can skip this step, but you might want to go to the Home tab
and choose Arrange > Group. Now right click on any part of the log and
choose Save As Picture. That should get you a picture of just the
selected objects.

It works! Thanks.

I should add for the benefit of others that the method that you describe does
not work in earlier versions of PowerPoint. Because I am working with someone
who still has the 2003 version, I had converted my original PowerPoint file
for compatibility with earlier versions and was unable to perform the steps
that you suggested. Once I reverted back to the 2007 format, the process
worked beautifully.

Thanks again.

That's odd. I just tested it in 2003, and it worked perfectly. I'm not
sure why it didn't work for you. Perhaps, you should try it again in
2003.

To clarify, I did not try it in PowerPoint 2003; I created the slide in
PowerPoint 2007 and then saved it as a 97-2003 file. For whatever reason, I
cannot execute the same steps when the file is saved for compatibility with
97-2003. I tried it three times, no luck.

I'm still not able to duplicate the problem. I just created a slide in
2007 and saved it in 97-2003 format and was able to use Save As Picture
with no problem. I wonder if you have used some of the new graphics
effects from 2007, such as shadowing. I did some experimenting and found
that if I used shadow effects, saved to 97-2003, closed and re-opened,
the shadow effect would not look good at all, but I was still able to
Save As Picture whatever was shown on the slide. That is, the Save As
Picture worked perfectly in all cases. The problem was with the shadow
effect not looking good in compatibility mode.

It may have to remain one of those unsolved Microsoft mysteries. I am just
unable to do it in the 97-2003 format. There are no shadow effects. The group
of objects includes a JPEG image and 3 textboxes, nothing fancy.

Well, then that is weird because I just tried it and had no problem. I
guess you are right that it will have to remain "one of those unsolved
Microsoft mysteries."

Many thanks for your help and interest. Even though I don't understand the
different results in 97-2003 format, the fact remains that you have solved my
problem.
