Save As, Open

S

Sanford Aranoff

When the save as or Open dialogs come up, the files are not sorted. I
right click, sort by name (or sort by date), and then things are fine.
When I do it again, it does not remember what I chose last. If I did
sort by name before, the open dialog forgot that I want it sorted by
name.

Win XP SP 2.

It was not this way. I must have done something. But I do not know what!

Thanks.

2. On the View menu, click Details.
3. Click the Name column to sort items by name, press and hold down the CTRL

4. Release the CTRL key.
5. Restart your computer.

NOTE: You must perform these steps exactly as they are listed. For example,
do not quit Windows Explorer by clicking Exit on the File menu. ]]

Did that. It restored the order in Explorer. However, OpenAs and SaveAs does not
have the correct sort order.
The registry setting is correct.

After sorting in Windows Explorer did you close it by holding down the Ctrl
key and left clicking the close [X] in the upper right hand corner? This
sets global sort.

Did you reboot?

Beats the heck out of me. The instuctions in 229070 usually fix the
problem.

From David Candy...
[[In a folder window not a dialog box and close is the X on the titlebar. It
MUST be done in a File Folder window not a virtual folder like My Computer.

Ctrl + Close button
Sets the system default settings, mainly sort order. ]]

This worked for one person, try it...

[[Neither of these methods worked, but I managed to fix the problem by
simply
clearing the "Remember each folder's view settings" checkbox in the Folder
Options, sorting files by name and then applying changes to to all
folders..]]

The problem is when I open a file using an application. It used to sort by name.
Now it sorts by modified. Explorer works fine. The issue is the various
applications.
