At the moment i have 2x ide hdd drives as pri master and pri slave. Im
looking to get a western digital raptor serial ata drive to use as my
boot drive. Can i do this and still keep the 2 ide drives in place as
storage drives? Will the raptor be much quicker than my current drives
that run a 7200 rpm ( both diamond max 9 80gb drives with 2mb cache ).
i think the raptor runs at 10,000rpm?

thanks

I had a similar setup, installed 2* serial drives, in mirror, reinstalled
win and apps to these, as boot drive. Used my ide drives as backups and
other none critical apps.
Much quicker?; theoretically and probably practically but whether you would
notice in real time apps, I doubt it!

An excellent choice.

Yes.

Well, it also has 8MB cache, so that should also help with smaller
transfers, as well as the decreased rotational latency from 10k RPM.

In terms of raw data rates, I can write a 300MB file in ~7 seconds.

It's an excellent drive, unrivalled by anything but it's bigger brother.
And SCSI* - but it's close. :p
