P4C800E DX - IDE channels and # of drives

I have my sata raid running on the intel chip - ich5r (2-maxtor sata 80 gig
hdd). I tried to set up my other drives as follows

Pri ide - master/dvd rom, slave cd-rw
Sec ide - master/spare hdd, slave none

My machine will not let me set up two drives on the same channel.
This is what I had to do. Pri master-dvd rom,Sec master-cdrw, promise ide
raid controller-spare drive (set as raid in the bios).

Does this have something to do with the # of drives this board will run?

Ok, so your using the SATA raid function in the ich5r

Pri ide - master/dvd rom, slave cd-rw
Sec ide - master/spare hdd, slave none

Promise IDE should be disabled. Your not using the promise as your raid,
your using the intel one.

I have Pri IDE Master - CDRW
Pri IDE - Slave - DVDRW
Sec IDE Disabled
and 1 SATA drive hooked up.

The board will run 6 drives with XP. I've got two SATA on Intel RAID0, two
IDE on Promise RAID0, and CDRW and a DVD on secondary IDE.

I tried changing the bios settings to ide on the promise controller but it
did not see the drive. So I changed it back to raid and there it was. Iwas
just happy to see it finally that I left it as is. So for now I have SATA
Raid 0 on ich5r, DVD drive on pri ide, cdrw on sec ide, and my back up drive
on promise ide controller.

What I will try next when I have time is to disable the promise as you
suggest and see if my pri ide and sec ide will let me run master and slave
configurations.

Otherwise the board is quite nice - fast and running cool at 24C - 29C. My
P4T and GA KNXP run at 39C. I have 1gig of crucial mem and a 2.6c P4 running
5% oc.

If you change the Promise from Raid tot IDE, you will also have to install the ide-driver for your
Promise controller in XP.
There is a separate driver available for Raid and IDE.
You can install both drivers, so you can change when you want.
