cpu p4 3.0e
mobo asus p4c800-e deluxe
mem corsair 512x2
video nvidia leadtek 6800 128mb ddr

these are the new parts used to fix my poor old computer!
Now, I have two HD, two drives...
WD40BB and WD80JB

I am wondering is it faster if I install two HD on seperate
channel?!?!
I had Abit VP6 for my old PIII 1Ghz, with total of four IDE
channels...
I tried to put two HD on one channel and seperate, I felt seperate the
HD on different channel accelerated the HD to HD ransfer.....
Can someone tell me about it?!

Now, both drives I have are ATA100, WD40BB, WD80JB.....
With the P4C800-E Deluxe,
I tried the connection shows below:
Pri-IDE master WD40BB
Pri-IDE slave NONE
Sec-IDE master DVD
Sec-IDE slave CDRW
3rd ~~~ NONE
4th ~~~ NONE.....
These info shown in the BIOS...
the Promise contoller shows the 80BB is detected when I set the
Controller from RAID(Default) to IDE mode....
But in the windows, hardware manager can't install the driver!!!

Can someone help me wih this?!

Or I just can't use ATA100 HD on that controller?! has to b
ATA13...?!

THX!

Have you tried using the Promise ATA driver ? The Asus download
page lists two driver types for the Promise 20378. One is a
RAID driver, and the other is an ATA driver. Maybe the ATA
one will load for you ?

If you are doing a fresh Windows install, I would do it with only
one hard drive present on the system - it should be located on
the interface you want to use for it. Do the "F6" thing, if that
happens to be the Promise interface. For non-RAID on the Southbridge,
you probably don't need to use F6 during the install, as the OS
should be able to handle vanilla IDE interfaces itself.

If you are installing on the WD40BB above, you should be able to
add the Promise ATA driver after installing. Then, plug in a drive
on the Promise interface and see if it works.

And there is no need to multipost - we can see you post just fine :)
