SATA Hard Drive Recognition In XP

I just built a new system using 2 SATA 80GB Western
Digital hard drives. I did NOT configure them to use
RAID. My BIOS recognizes both hard drives. But when I
installed XP, the operating system is only recognizing 1
hard drive. I cannot see the 2nd 80 GB hard drive using
Windows Explorer.

Any suggestions?

Click on start/run
Type in diskmgmt.msc and click ok
Is the 80 gb listed there?

No. I do not see the 2nd hard drive using diskmgmt.msc.

I do see the 2nd hard drive in the hardware manager list
(right click my computer - properties - device manager -
disk drives). However, when I go to the 2nd hard drives
properties, the "Device Usage" drop down box is grayed
out. I cannot tell Windows to enable or disable this
device.

I believe this is a formatting issue. When I installed
Win XP from the CD-ROM drive, it only formatted one hard
drive. Is there a way to format a hard drive from the
WIN XP setup CD or to start-up in a DOS mode?

Please advise.

You did load the sata drivers, F6 option, during the install of winxp?
