SATA Controller Card

I have but one IDE Header on my motherboard. I purchased a SATA Controller
Card. It has one IDE Header and two SATA Headers. I connected a CD Writer to
the IDE Header. Device Manager says that the device is working properly, but
the computer has not identified it. I have the CD Writer set to "master". It
is the only thing connected to that header. I will have to use that card or
one similar to it. The card is plugged in to a regular PCI slot. Does anyone
have any ideas as to why the computer has not recognized the writer? I am
running Windows XP Home. I have 1 Gigabyte of memory.

The Promise SATA controller card I had used in the past said it was not
compatible with CD/DVD drives, only hard drives. Check the literature.

I will check that out. I scanned over the little pamphlet and did not see
anything like that on it. I will check it again. Thanks for the information.

I have been in contact with the manufacturer, and they are working with me to
solve the problem. I am closing this thread.
