Same PC, 2 HDD, 2 Installs, 1 licence, piracy?

Hi all.

I have just acquired a brand new HDD. At the moment I have a single install
of XP pro on my PC. I do some development work and testing of software, and
thought about having a fresh seperate copy of windows on my PC to test with,
without interfering with my current setup.

What I am asking is basically. In my PC, can I use my one licence of
Windows to install a copy of XP on each of the two HDDs in the same PC. Not
quite dual boot, but on seperate HDDs. Will I require 2 licences, obvioulsy
since it is teh same PC, only one copy of XP will be running at a time.

Is this classed as piracy? Don't want to go the virtual PC route. How do I
go about authenticating the new copy if allowed to go ahead?

One PC one license. Even if you install 10 times on the same pc it's still
the same pc so your legal.

Read the specific EULA. For some, if both hard drives with
Windows XP are on the same computer, then it is a violation
of the EULA. There is no provision about the license being
valid for just the one "functioning" OS.

Where in the EULA is it not ok to install twice on the SAME computer.

Actually, if one takes the EULA at face value, dual-booting in the
manner you propose is allowed. Specifically, the EULA says "... Except
as otherwise expressly provided in this EULA, you may install, use,
access, display *and* run only one (1) copy of the SOFTWARE on the
COMPUTER." The operative word in the above is "and," and the emphasis
is mine. Regardless of how many installations of the OS exist on the
computer, only one of them can be running and/or on display at any given
time, so it would be impossible to violate the EULA in this manner.

By the same token, however, this clause does preclude using the
same license within a virtual machine (VirtualPC or VMWare, fore
example), because one could then have two copies of the same license
running simultaneously.

Hi,

Does anyone have information about the legality of buying used S/W and
installing it with or without the COA. I want to install 2000 on a PC since
my older legacy driver does not work so well with XP but seems to be better
with 2000. I have purchased some stuff on ebay and one says "Only for sale
with a new PC" - I am not sure if that is enforceable since despite that I am
in agreement with the EULA. Is the CD the actual product sold or is the COA
or is it a non transferable right or what? If someone has installed and
registered, am I in trouble even if I have COA etc??
