All of a sudden one of my hard drives is listed twice
(once as G: ... which is normal) and once as H: ... its
the same drive .... anyone know how this happened and how
to fix?

Bummer is that everytime XP starts now it does a
constancy check on "both drives" always finds no problems.

but it just the one drive ... :(

It's possible to change drive letterring via a registry editor when Disk
Administrator doesn't let you do it. The instructions in the following
article can work for *any* partition; not just partitions containing OSes.

Important precautions *before* editing the registry:
Make sure you've got System Restore (SR) switched on.
Also, be sure to create a restore point for SR. See instructions at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gethelp/systemrestore.asp
After creating the restore point, reboot before attempting the registry
editing.

I had the same problems. As far as the drives showing up twice, I was able
to use Disk Management to remove the 2nd drive letter. However, the first
was not visible not changeable through Disk Management. Search for topic
"Disk Management doesn't show my drive letters" on 10/31, and read Michal
Kawecki's response to me about where to find information on drive letters in
the registry.

As far as XP always running CHKDSK on every boot, a response from
Diskeeper's support told me to do a CHKDSK /R on all of my drives. That was
the only thing that resolved that problem for me. (A full system disk format
and OS reinstall didn't fix it!)
